More than 1,200 customers are without power in Gahanna after a transformer blew Sunday afternoon causing several power lines to come down across the road.
Gahanna Police said traffic was blocked at Hamilton and East Johnstown Road because those wires were still energized.
Mifflin Township firefighters were also called to assist in keeping those in the area safe.
"We have to set up a perimeter to keep those in cars and pedestrians away from the scene because these are not your standard residential power lines," said Mifflin Township Fire Department Chief Jeff Wright. "These are primary lines which are extremely high voltage lines so we want to keep everyone away to make sure the power is completely off."
American Electric Power crews are working to restore the power, but they do not yet know when it will be fixed.
