Residents of one West Columbus neighborhood are on edge after two homes caught fire at the same time.
Investigators believe it's the work of an arsonist and neighbors hope it's a trend that doesn't continue.
Firefighters responded to the early morning call on Whitehorne Avenue just after 6:00 A.M. on Tuesday. When they arrived on scene, flames were shooting from two homes.
Neighbor Dontae Bell saw the blaze and called 911, hoping no one was inside.
After the fire dispatcher told him not to go in, he grabbed his phone and recorded the flames on his cellphone, which showed smoke and fire pouring from both homes.
“I thought the house was going to explode!” recalls Bell.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames and luckily no one was living inside either of the homes. But investigators did discover that someone lit both homes separately.
That’s something that doesn't surprise Dontae Bell, who believes the twin fires were the work of an arsonist.
Investigators are currently probing why the fires may have been set and who set them.
