A former attorney who stole thousands of dollars from a client was sentenced to community service.
Lindsey Burt was given 240 hours of community service by a Franklin County Common Pleas Court judge.
Burt was convicted of taking more than $67,000 by falsely representing herself as a guardian for the client’s child. The child’s mother died, and investigators say Burt took the money over a five year period.
Columbus police say they were frustrated that they were not allowed to speak in court on Wednesday and that Burt did not get any jail time.
“The judge would not let me speak in court. My 24 years of law enforcement - law enforcement has never been prohibited speaking in court. The court said that I was not permitted to speak in court today. So, that was frustrating for us,” said Commander Bob Meader, Columbus Police Department.
Burt did not have any comments following the sentencing.
