A Columbus man is in jail accused of a brutal beating of a three-year-old girl who is the daughter of his live-in girlfriend.

Police say the little girl is being watched at Nationwide Children's Hospital to see if she will survive her injuries.

Wednesday afternoon, investigators executed a search at the couple's Lake Club Square apartment where the alleged incident took place.

Authorities say Leeves Bennett was home alone with the three-year-old victim and her 18-month-old sister, when the alleged assault took place.

10TV obtained one of the 911 calls made to get the little girl help.

Dispatcher: Are you having problems with your child there?

Caller: Um, she's breathing, but she's not waking up.

Investigators say Bennett beat the toddler severely, causing extensive bruising all over her body.

They also say she has pelvic and skull fractures and massive swelling to her brain.

Franklin County Children Services says they have temporary custody of the three-year-old girl and her 18 month-old sister.
