Columbus Police Agree To Review 1975 Murder Of Clintonville Teen

UPDATED: Wednesday May 7, 2014 5:20 PM

Columbus police will be reviewing a 1975 cold case involving a slain Clintonville teen.

Fourteen-year-old Christie Mullins was killed on August 23 of that year. Her body discovered behind the Graceland Shopping Center off of High Street. She was tied up and beaten to death.

The Mullins murder went unsolved, and the case was declared cold.

Clintonville residents have been pushing for a review of the case.

Police say they will now evaluate remaining physical evidence in the case. Investigators will determine if there are items that may be tested with today's improved technology.

If it is found that the case is "potentially solvable" it will be actively pursued. If there's not enough new evidence, the case will remain open but inactive.

After the murder, a neighbor who found Mullins identified a mentally challenged man as the killer. He stood trial but was acquitted.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Homicide Cold Case office at 645-4036.
