A home invasion and shooting in East Columbus is still under investigation.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. Monday at a house in the 6700 block of Tussing Road.

Police said two men broke into the home and confronted the homeowner and his children. The homeowner said the entire fight with the suspects happened in front of a 10-year-old girl. There were also two teens inside the home at the time of the invasion.

The suspects shot the homeowner in the leg. He was rushed to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

The victim's condition was upgraded and he was released early Tuesday morning. When he returned, he gave 10TV an exclusive look inside his home.

He says he found the shell casing from the bullet fired at him and a hat one of the two suspects were wearing during Monday's home invasion and shooting. The victim says the red New York Yankees hat belong to the shorter of the two suspects.

The man talked about having a gun pointed at him.

"He pointed it at me then made a statement of: 'Oh, you're going to die.’ He said ‘You're going to die right now’ but he said 'that ain't what we're here for,” the victim explained.

He's outraged, recounting to 10TV the moment the gunmen turned their weapons towards 13 and 15 year old boys, who were upstairs and peeked down to see what the commotion was.

The teens ran upstairs and escaped out of a window.

“It was the kids, in general. Me, I'm going to be alright regardless. It was the kids, when you come at the kids, that’s when the game was out of bounds."

The victim says the shorter suspect had facial tattoos and was about 5'5". The other man with a gun was about 6'4" with no hair or tattoos. Neighbors told police they saw the men take off in a grey car with a black hood.

Police are still searching for the suspects.
