UPDATED: Tuesday April 8, 2014 1:25 AM

A 8-year-old boy is recovering after shooting shot himself in the foot Monday afternoon.

The child was shot in a house on the 400 block of South Napoleon Avenue on the east side of Columbus.

A family friend says the gun belonged to an adult man who may have tried to conceal the weapon in his shoe before he left to do some laundry.

"I guess he took off his clothes to put them in the dryer, he took off his shoes and put his gun in his shoe," said Syovera Miller.

Investigators say the child was rushed to Nationwide Children's Hospital for treatment but was not seriously injured

Miller says the boy's mother was home at the time but preoccupied talking with a social worker who ran to help the boy.

Moments after the shooting, Miller says the adult man took the gun and ran out of the home.

Police are trying to track him down.
