Southern Ohio Inmates Display Drama Skills By Traveling Off To See The Wizard

UPDATED: Monday April 7, 2014 2:40 PM

Dorothy, Glenda, and the Wicked Witch were all there - but this was not your normal production of the Wizard of Oz.

Inmates from the Ross County Correctional Institution performed in their own production of the classic story on Monday.

Just like with any production - the sets were hand built, costumes sewn, and actors had to try out for their roles. There were a approximately 29 inmates involved in the show.

The play came about through an inmate book club that is called “Blue Bird Express.”

This is the first year RCI has had such a program and the inmates.

Officials hope to put the program on for the Chillicothe Correctional Institution inmate population later this year.
