Delaware County Investigating Suspected Mumps Cases

UPDATED: Thursday March 27, 2014 12:44 PM

Delaware County health officials say at least six suspected mumps cases have been reported in the county.

This comes on the heels of the Ohio State University outbreak which has spread into Franklin County.

There have been at least 82 cases reported in Franklin County. Of those, 65 are directly linked to the Ohio State University campus.

Health officials encourage those who are at highest risk of mumps to get vaccinated. Those at risk include individuals who have not received any doses of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) and those who have received only one of the two doses of MMR. Children should receive the MMR vaccine on or after their first birthday, followed by a second dose at 4 to 6 years of age.
