Families in a North Columbus apartment complex say they were shaken to the core when a car slammed into one of the bedrooms Monday morning.

Witnesses said it sounded like an explosion at the 2500 block of the Atwood Terrace building.

The driver lost control and hit the apartments at full speed just after midnight.

A 6-year-old inside was among the people that felt the impact. It threw her from her bed.

“I didn’t know how somebody survived,” said landlord Jerry Davis. “The little girl’s bed which was up against the wall had been shoved through the bedroom… and tore the door off the hinge.”

The girl felt fine after the crash but was taken to the hospital to get checked out.

The driver of the car was also taken to the hospital with a broken leg. Police were investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
