A driver was arrested in north Columbus after trying to speed away from officers.
Dispatchers told 10TV the chase started around 4:20 Saturday morning at Hudson Street and McGuffey Road.
Officers said 38-year-old Brandon Edwards tried to ram a police cruiser, and was driving the wrong way down Duxberry Avenue.
Edwards' car became disabled at I-71 northbound just south of Cooke Road.
The two officers, 34-year-old Phillip Stevens and 24-year-old Christopher Farrington, ordered Edwards to get out of the car but he refused.
The officers then physically removed Edwards from the vehicle. During the struggle, Officer Farrington was punched in the neck and kicked in the chest.
The officers then used a taser on Edwards and put him in handcuffs.
They said Edwards spit blood and saliva onto Officer Stevens' face.
Edwards was taken to the Franklin County Jail. He faces charges for assault on a police officer and harassment with a bodily substance.
Officers Stevens and Farrington were treated for exposure at Riverside Hospital and later released.
