Fatal Crash In Southern Franklin County May Have Been No Accident

UPDATED: Wednesday March 5, 2014 7:01 PM

William Burgess, 45, was traveling northbound when his vehicle veered into the path of a semi heading southbound Wednesday morning on State Route 104.

Upon impact, the SUV crashed into a ditch, while the truck landed on the other side of the road.

Medics pronounced Burgess dead at the scene.

But now it now appears the crash may have been intentional.

The driver of the rig, who was injured in the crash, has told police it appeared Burgess intentionally crossed the center line and struck his rig.

Burgess’ wife Karen echoed this statement, saying her husband may have been on a suicide mission and had been depressed for years.

On Tuesday night, Karen says her husband sliced her neck from ear to throat with a box cutter and held her hostage.  He then tried to hang himself.

Early Wednesday morning, William took Karen to Mount Carmel West, where she called police.   She was notified of William's death as she was being treated there with more than 20 sutures in her neck.
