UPDATED: Monday March 3, 2014 12:24 PM

10TV was on the scene this morning as Columbus Police officers strapped an infant into a car seat in the back of a cruiser and drove her from a home where she was left home alone.

Officers first arrived to the North Columbus apartment on Tamarack Circle after two children boarded a school bus on its way to a Columbus Elementary School.  The siblings told their bus driver they had to leave their 9-month-old sister home alone.

The bus driver acted quickly and alerted authorities.

Police tell 10TV they found the door to the apartment unlocked and discovered the baby in the middle of a bed.

15 minutes after police entered the apartment, a man identifying himself as the child’s babysitter arrived at the scene and was taken into custody for questioning.

The baby is currently being cared for by staff at the Franklin County Children Services.
