Columbus Fire Changing How It Handles Non-Emergency Calls

UPDATED: Saturday March 1, 2014 7:37 AM

The Columbus fire department is changing how it handles non-emergency calls.

Under the current system, when people call the department at 614-221-2345, they reach the 911 operators.

Starting Saturday March 1, that number will now reach an automated system.

Columbus Division of Fire Chief Gregory Paxton says the change will allow the operators to focus on emergency calls.
