Bellefontaine Police have made an arrest in a hit and run crash that killed a marine.
34-year-old Marine Gunnery Sergeant Monica Plank was walking with her husband along South Main Street on February 16 when she was hit.
Police said Plank was walking in the outside lane of traffic because of snow and ice-covered sidewalks.
Plank’s husband, U.S. Marine Sergeant Chris Plank, was about 100 feet behind her at the time of the crash, and began giving her CPR. She died several hours later at the hospital.
On Saturday, February 22, investigators followed leads on to a nearby bowling alley, where they interviewed 26-year-old Holly J. Fowler.
Police say Fowler agreed to show them her car. Officers say her car had damage they felt was consistent with the hit/skip scene and impounded it for further testing.
Fowler repeatedly denied hitting Plank, but later confessed during a police interrogation.
Fowler was charged with failing to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence. She was being held at the Logan County Jail.
Besides her husband, Plank leaves behind three children.
