Bellefontaine Police officers have arrested and charged Holly J. Fowler 26, Urbana, for failing to stop after an accident, and tampering with evidence in the hit and run death of a U.S. Marine.

Detectives identified the suspect's car after viewing surveillance video captured from a nearby business the night of the crash.

Investigators interviewed Fowler after following tips that led them to her car at T.P. Lanes, a local bowling alley.

Police said she walked investigators to her car, which is a burgundy colored Chevrolet Malibu LT.

Upon initial inspection, police said it was clear that the damage matched what investigators believed to be consistent with (the) hit/skip crash scene.

Those who know Fowler, told 10TV they can't believe she would be involved in a crime like this.

"Just not like her, didn't make any sense it doesn't add up to who she is," said Gary Yoakam of Bellefontaine.

Fowler later agreed to allow police to impound her vehicle for further testing until her vehicle could be examined more closely.

Police said she repeatedly denied knowing how the damages occurred and denied involvement in the death of Monica Plank.

However, she later agreed to come to the Bellefontaine Police Department for a formal interview and interrogation.

During her interview at the Bellefontaine Police Department, Fowler admitted that she was the person responsible for striking Plank the morning of Sunday, Feb. 16.

Plank was a 34-year-old Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps stationed in Quantico, Virginia.

She is survived by her husband and five children they share between them.

Police said Plank had left a bar and was walking to her hotel after she and her husband got into an argument.

Officers said she was walking in the road because deep snow was covering the sidewalk.

10TV spoke with Fowler's grandparents who declined to talk about the case.

They did say they've retained an attorney.
