The 18th Street Bridge will come down Friday so crews can begin construction on a new bridge over Interstate 70 in Columbus.
Replacing the bridge is one part of the $28 million project to build a new bridge to carry westbound I-70 over the I-71 interchange and onto Mound Street.
The bridge will be replaced in two waves. While traffic is maintained on the southbound side, contractor Complete General Construction will tear down the northbound side of the bridge and rebuild it.
Once the northbound side is rebuilt, southbound traffic will be rerouted to the new side of the bridge so construction crews can rebuild the other side.
