A source close to the family says Hunter has gone through five surgeries so far, and surgery to amputate his left leg below the knee will happen later this week, unless a miracle happens.

The little boy was rescued from his Mt. Vernon home in mid-January.

His parents say a caregiver was watching him when the injuries occurred.

Mt. Vernon police continue to investigate, but so far, there are no charges in the case.
