Crime Stoppers: Man Forced Ohio State Student To Drive To ATMs & Buy Cigarettes

UPDATED: Sunday January 26, 2014 5:30 AM

Crime Stoppers has identified a robbery near the Ohio State University campus as this week's "Crime of the Week."

Around 8 a.m. on December 17, a student was clearing snow off of his car when a man approached him.

The man told the victim that he had a weapon. He forced the victim into the car and told him to drive to various ATMs to try and get cash.

When that was unsuccessful, the suspect instructed the victim to buy cartons of Newport cigarettes at the Marathon gas station at Hudson and I-71.

The suspect then asked to be dropped off near Cleveland and Maynard streets.

Police say they believe this is not the first time the suspect has committed similar crimes.

He's described as a black male between 30-40 years old. He's 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a scar on the left side of his face.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477) or go to our website at www.stopcrime.org.
