Muskingum County Faces Salt Shortage Due To Rough Winter

UPDATED: Friday January 24, 2014 11:40 AM

Muskingum County officials say they are running low on salt to treat area roadways.

County trucks are focusing on main roads during snow events to conserve what salt they have left. They are also supplementing their salt supply with sand and cinders.

While the county is in conservation mode, treating bridges, curves, hills and intersections will be main priority.

The Muskingum County Engineer's Office says it is working on a long-term plan to have a large enough salt barn to store a three year supply.

That proposal is still in the planning and discussion stage.
