The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission and the city of Pataskala is offering a free home repair program for some residents.

The Community Housing Improvement Program allows residents to apply for grant funds to make home repairs. It's on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Funds can be used to repair or replace a roof update plumbing or electrical systems, or repair or replace furnaces.

The average amount for the grant is $6,400 dollars per household.

The program also includes major home rehabilitation to replace roofs, upgrade windows or make weatherization improvements.  Larger projects can mean homeowners receive up to $30,000. Homeowners won't have to repay the grant as long as they stay in the house for ten years.

Julia Johnson used the program to repair her roof last fall.

"I am no longer insecure when our Ohio weather hits. And the inside repairs are so neat and clean. I so appreciate all the work you did. The contractors were fantastic," Johnson said.

Qualifying homes must be valued at less than $160,000 and be located in Pataskala. There are certain income requirements as well.

Call Anne Arnott at (614) 233-4184 or toll free at (800) 886-6772 for more information on the program.
