Local Nursing Home Residents Must Find New Home

UPDATED: Friday January 17, 2014 5:43 PM

A local nursing home is losing its Medicaid funding and must move all of its residents.

The state says the home had the opportunity to meet standards, but didn't.

There are 131 people at Carlton Manor in Washington Courthouse who now have to find a new place to live.

The Ohio Department of Health says it was flagged six months ago for several violations.

"Initially there were some very serious concerns about sexual assaults and abuse in the home," said Long Term Care Ombudsman Beverley Laubert.

Laubert says investigations are ongoing and notes the facility did correct some violations.  After six months, it still didn't meet standards.

The facility is not losing its license, just its Medicaid and Medicare funding. Since most of the residents receive that assistance, the state says it’s unlikely the facility could still operate.

No one at Carlton Manor would comment.

Laubert is heading up the team to move the residents out. While there are about 1,200 nursing home openings across the state, Carlton Manor is home to some mentally ill individuals, brain injury patients and others that could be challenging to place.

"I believe it's no secret that there are residents there who are registered sex offenders. Many nursing homes won't accept registered sex offenders whether or not they may be a risk for other residents," said Laubert.

Carlton Manor will still receive Medicaid money for 30 days.  That is also how long they have to move the residents out.
