Columbus police say they have a person of interest in connection with the murder of man whose body was found in East Columbus Tuesday night and family members tell 10TV they are shocked.

Police identified the person as 27-year-old Lorenzo D. Mason. The family says he has a 10-year old daughter.

His family says Mason was dedicated to his job, caring for his mother, and spending time with his daughter. His aunt tells 10tv he also attended Columbus State.

They say the murder doesn't make sense.

"He's going to be missed, he was a father he was a son, he was somebody's grandson, he was my nephew he was loved,” said his aunt Mary Lewis.

Police received a tip from a 911 call around 9 p.m. on Tuesday stating that a man's daughter had spotted someone that they believed had been shot.

10TV requested a copy of the 911 call, but police are not releasing saying it contains information important to the case.

Mason had gunshots wounds to the upper body.

Investigators said it appeared the body was dumped at the location.

"I don't believe he was murdered there, "said Lewis.

The family is pleading for someone to come forward and provide police with the clues to solve this case.

"I don't know why you did this for what reason i pray that you come forth anybody that has any information about what happened to him, “said Lewis.

Mason disappeared January 9th. On Sunday the family says police found the car he was driving.

"All the windows were rolled down and on Thursday night it was cold so i know he wouldn't abandon the car," said Lewis.
