Dozens Of Animals Killed In Licking County Barn Fire

UPDATED: Thursday January 9, 2014 9:12 AM

Firefighters responded to a barn fire early Thursday morning.

The fire started around 2:00 a.m. inside a barn at R&R Stables in the 11300 block of Watkins Road Southwest.

Firefighters said two to four cows, five pigs and possibly 40 goats were killed in the fire. Ducks and chickens were also killed. No horses were injured.

Firefighters said they were able to protect a house and a chicken coop that was near the burning barn.

Fire officials say 10 fire departments responded to the scene. They had to truck water in because there were no fire hydrants near the farm.

Fire officials said heat lamps may have started the fire, but the cause is still under investigation.
