Freezing temperatures caused a sprinkler malfunction at a west Columbus apartment building Tuesday morning forcing people into the cold.
Firefighters say a sprinkler line burst in an upper unit of The Quarry apartments causing water to continuously trickle down to other units.
The cold temperatures caused the water to freeze creating an icy mess in the apartments, stairs and walkways.
People who live in four different apartments were without a place to stay.
A warming bus came in to help keep them out of the cold until firefighters could clean up the scene.
A total of six units received damage.
