Columbus Officer Injured In Crash On I-71 South At Cooke Road

A Columbus police officer was reportedly trapped under her cruiser after a crash on Interstate 71 Thursday morning.

The crash was reported an I-71 South near Weber Road in north Columbus around 11 a.m. I-71 was shut down while emergency crews were on the scene.

According to police dispatchers, the officer was pulled over aiding a motorists when the crash occurred and she was trapped under her cruiser.

The officer was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police charged the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash. Jarrett Lumpkin, 29, faces two counts of aggravated vehicular assault, OVI, and not having a valid license. He also failed to disclose to officers that he had marijuana in his shoe, according to police. That resulted in an additional felony conveyance charge.
