The Ohio State University confirmed Wednesday that sophomore defensive end Noah Spence has been suspended for three games for violating a Big Ten Conference rule.
The team stated earlier in the week that the All-Big Ten player was not in Florida with the team because he was managing a personal issue.
OSU officials said Spence's parents did not agree with the rule violation nor the penalty and attempted to appeal to the Big Ten.
Spence will miss the Orange Bowl and the first two games of the 2014 season.
Ohio State would not reveal the violation that led to the suspension.
