Officials with Norfolk Southern say 11 southbound train cars jumped the tracks in Chillicothe near Sugar Street shortly before midnight Monday.
Rail officials now say the train was traveling below the posted speed limit when the cars jumped the tracks.
10TV has been told the train was not carrying any hazardous materials.
The train cars stayed upright and crews were working to get the cars back on the tracks.
No one was injured, but tracks were damaged and will need to be repaired before train traffic can resume.
The train was not blocking any railroad crossings.
