Lawyers for Former Doctor Accused Of Murder Asks For Leniency

Attorneys for a former Ohio doctor who pleaded guilty to killing a pregnant mother acknowledge he recorded himself having sex with the incapacitated woman and later moved her body but say she caused her own accidental overdose.

The attorneys argue Ali Salim should be granted leniency at sentencing Friday in central Ohio's Delaware County. They said in a court filing Thursday that Salim accepts responsibility for his actions and the court should consider his previous background as a doctor in good standing with no criminal history.

The 44-year-old Salim pleaded guilty to rape and involuntary manslaughter.

Prosecutors allege he administered a fatal dose of heroin to 23-year-old Deanna Ballman and say she wasn't a drug user. They're pushing for the maximum sentence of 37 years.
