Police Believe Dogs Responsible For Baby's Death In West Side Condo

UPDATED: Tuesday December 10, 2013 5:21 PM

Columbus police were at a residence on the west side of Columbus investigating a suspicious death of an infant Tuesday morning.

An infant died after being taken from a condo on Lake Shore Drive to Nationwide Children's Hospital.

According to detectives at the scene, a mother found her baby unresponsive on the floor with external injuries from two dogs in the house.

Police say they believe the animals caused the baby's death.

The baby had apparently fallen off a couch when the father fell asleep during the night.

The child had been born premature in the ICU and was released on Thanksgiving Day after three months in the hospital.

The dogs were Shiba Inus. They have been taken by the dog warden.

Officials plan to forward evidence of the investigation to the prosecutor to review any possible charges.

The name of the child was not immediately released.
