Franklin County Agency Worries About Filling Holiday Wishes

UPDATED: Wednesday December 4, 2013 7:23 PM

Franklin County Children Services is celebrating the 50th year of granting a child's holiday wish, but representatives tell 10TV that this year, they fear those needs might not be met.

A toy drive has produced significantly lower numbers and thousands of children are still in need.

Normally, the shelves inside the family center at 855 W. Mound Street are full of thousands of presents for children.

This year, there are only about 200 wrapped toys which means 2000 children at this point will not be getting their wishes granted.

Elizabeth Crabtree with Franklin County Children Services says they are only at about half of what they need to raise for children in need.

She says they are trying to help children that may have experienced abuse or neglect, or just a difficult family dynamic.

"It's very difficult for them and so a gift doesn't fix things, but it might make the holidays a little less difficult for them, so that they know they're remembered and cared for by community members who may never meet them or ever see them," said Crabtree.

Representatives are asking community members to remember these children are in need and still want to believe in the holiday magic.
