5 Arrested After Westerville SWAT Standoff

Westerville police arrested five people following a SWAT standoff Friday night.

Police say group were robbery suspects refusing to come out of a home on Parkview Avenue.

Officer Jeff Gayler said three of the suspects tried to rob a man while he was walking to work. The victim told police one of the suspects showed a pistol.

The victim said he knew the suspects. He promised to give them money from his home. The victim ran into his house and the suspects fled to the Parkview Avenue home.

Police said they deployed a tactical team to negotiate with the suspects inside the home. They refused to come out.

Officers fired tear gas into the home shortly before 10:00 p.m. and were able to safely arrest five people.

No one was hurt.

Police said the three robbery suspects, Katelyn Allen, 20, Amanda Shearer, 22, and Stephen Stickel, 25, are each charged with aggravated robbery. The other two people are the parents of one of the suspects. They will face complicity charges for allegedly harboring the suspects in their home.
