Police in Chillicothe have charged a 60-year-old man with aggravated vehicular assault and more charges may be filed later.

Emmett Beeler is accused of striking a bicyclist with a vehicle on Saturday around 6 p.m.

Jason Butterbaugh was struck while riding near Bridge and Eighth streets. He was flown to a Columbus hospital and is in critical condition.

Another person was also hit in the crash but was not seriously injured.

Police say Beeler was found at his nearby home. He told authorities that he had hit a deer.

Officers said they believe Beeler was intoxicated and a blood sample was taken.

The sample was submitted to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Crime Lab and results are pending.
