Woman's Suspicious Death Ruled A Homicide By Police

UPDATED: Sunday November 3, 2013 12:12 AM

Columbus police now say a woman's suspicious death has been ruled a homicide.

Callie Van Meter, 22, was found dead inside an apartment in the 3200 block of Sullivant Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Friday night.

A woman called 911 and told a police dispatcher that a family member came home from work and found a woman non-responsive on his couch.

The caller went on to say that the woman did not live there but did spend the night with his roommate.

Paramedics pronounced Van Meter dead at the scene. Detectives did not disclose many details about how the woman died but have confirmed that she was murdered.

Mary Washington said her friend was caring, compassionate and a new mother.

"I don't even know, I'm at a loss for words, Callie's daughter was the world to her, she was a very good mother, very good," said Washington.

Crime scene investigators spent Saturday morning collecting evidence but at this point a motive for her murder has not been determined.

Although police have not identified any suspects, Washington says she's confident police will make an arrest soon.

"I hope the person that they do find that killed Callie gets life, how could you kill somebody, take them away from their family and their child," she said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Columbus Police Homicide detectives at (614) 645-4730 or Crimestoppers at (614) 645-TIPS.
