Vinton County Woman Reaches Settlement With Bank That Wrongfully Repossessed Her Belongings

A Vinton County woman has reached a settlement with the bank that wrongfully repossessed her belongings.

The First National Bank of Wellston admits it mistook Katie Barnett's home for one of its foreclosed homes across the street.

Barnett, who had been away from the house for about two weeks, said she had to crawl through the window of her own house in order to get in after she used her own key that did not work.

Some of the items in her house had been hauled away, others were sold, given away and trashed.

In July, 10 Investigates reported Barnett presented First National Bank with an $18,000 estimate to replace the losses, but the president refused to pay.

The two parties announced Thursday they have reached a settlement but would not disclose the details of their agreement.
