A new bill at the Ohio statehouse would make it illegal for minors to use tanning beds.
The only exception is for a child to receive a doctor’s prescription to tan.
Stephanie Flinta and her mother testified on Wednesday in favor of the bill.
Flinta was diagnosed with melanoma after she says she used tanning beds.
“I noticed a small spot on my leg and didn’t think anything of it. A few weeks later they said I had Melanoma and that was a really bad time in my life,” said Flinta.
However, industry officials say there are enough laws.
“Is it perfect? No. Is it light years ahead of where it was a few years ago? Yes. It’s getting better and better,” said TanPro owner Rob Quinn.
Another hearing is expected on the tanning beds bill next month.
