The father of a wounded soldier is speaking out about his son’s fame – all because of one picture.
Last week, Cpl. Josh Hargis was awarded a Purple Heart while in his hospital bed overseas
Hargis was thought to be unconscious.
To everyone’s surprise, Hargis raised his arm in salute.
The picture has become known as “the salute seen around the world.”
“I’m overwhelmed. I’m overwhelmed that that’s my boy, that he could come from me. Yeah, I’m overwhelmed,” said Hargis’ father, Jim
He said he does not believe his son was conscious at the time.
“I think it was unconscious. I think he was totally out. That’s the way he is. He felt it,” Jim Hargis said.
Hargis has since fully woken up and is on his way back to the United States.
He will continue his recovery at a military hospital in San Antonio.
