Police are investigating after a man's body was found in a stairwell in an east Columbus apartment building.
The body was located Wednesday morning at 63 North Hampton Road at about 9:30 a.m.
"He wasn't moving, like I tapped his foot and everything, but he didn't move,” said Sherell Tyler, who told 10TV that she discovered the body.
Investigators say it appears the man, in his 50s, was stabbed to death.
"He helps around here. He doesn't have a problem with anybody. The only guy he had a problem with was that guy in the apartment and they used to be roommates,” said Tyler
The Columbus SWAT team was called to check the home because they said they believed the suspect was barricaded in his apartment.
SWAT forced entry into the house but found no one inside.
"Don't know how it got out of the apartment because the doors are all locked from the inside", said Homicide Detective Sgt. Henry Little of the Columbus Division of Police
Witnesses said that the suspect and the man found dead had an ongoing feud.
"I'm being told that something took place some time ago where they stabbed and shot each other so it seems it's a pretty substantial beef,” said Little.
Police described the man found dead as a groundskeeper or maintenance worker for the apartment. He did not live in the building where he was found.
A weapon has not been located.
