Columbus police say a report of a child possibly abandoned in the woods on Wednesday turned out to be a hoax.
Big Run Park was shut down on Wednesday evening while authorities searched.
Two witnesses told police that they saw a man and a woman, who had driven a white Ford Ranger truck, take a small girl into the woods and then leave abruptly without the child about 20 minutes later.
Big Run Park was evacuated shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday because of the incident. People were allowed back in the park at about 5:45 p.m.
On Thursday, the Columbus police Twitter account stated the report was a hoax.
Police have not said if any charges will be filed.
