A progressive group is paying for a television ad targeting Republican Congressman Bill Johnson and the Tea Party for the ongoing federal government shutdown.
"Bill Johnson joined with Tea Party Republicans in Congress and shut down our government, putting hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work, putting critical benefits for veterans, seniors and the disabled at risk, denying cancer treatment for kids and halting food inspections," the ad says.
The ad, by Americans United for Change, is part of a six-figure campaign targeting a total of 10 GOP members.
Johnson's campaign responded by placing the blame for the shutdown on Democrats.
"Liberals like Barack Obama and his close ally Jennifer Garrison refuse to acknowledge that our government has run out of money and that the decision by President Obama and Senate Democrats to shut down the government hurts Ohio's working families," said Johnson spokesman Matt Dole. "No wonder liberal out of state special interests decided to attack Bill Johnson -- they know he's fighting to re-open the government and restore sanity to Washington."
