A Columbus man is behind bars, charged with luring a boy into an alley on the promise of a new bicycle and then raping him.
Detectives said that Cappelletti Anderson allegedly lured a 13-year-old boy into an alley off of East Hinman Avenue at about 11 p.m. Aug. 12. The boy was promised a new bicycle.
Anderson then allegedly grabbed the boy's wrist and pulled him into a vacant garage located in the rear of a vacant home in the 300 block.
In a search warrant obtained by 10TV, detectives say Anderson performed a number of sex acts on the boy in the garage.
“I think it's sickening, I mean, I can't believe it's happening in my neighborhood. Honestly, I didn't know about it," said Tina Zivkovich, who moved into the neighborhood in the last year.
Zivkovich was shocked when 10TV told her about what happened just a few steps away from her front door.
Police say Anderson, 47, was arrested Monday, nearly two months after the alleged crime.
"It's very depressing and it breaks my heart, you know, I can't imagine one of my kids going through something like that," Zivkovich said.
Police say after the alleged rape, Anderson was observed on Parsons Avenue by the victim's mother, who apparently started yelling at him. Police say then a crowd formed and attacked Anderson, causing several injuries, including a severe head wound.
Zivkovich says she babysits her 1-year-old granddaughter, Bailey, and is concerned what's happening in her neighborhood.
“I think it's best to watch out for one another, you know, but people don't do that anymore," she said.
She says she is thankful for police patrols.
“They come down the street a lot, I have to say that, and that made me have peace of mind,” she said. “But now, I don't know any more, you know?"
Zivkovich says she wishes there was a crime block watch in the neighborhood.
Anderson remains in jail on $200,000 bond.
His next court appearance is set for Oct. 16.
