Speaker of the House John Boehner told his fellow Republicans Friday that he will not back down and offer a resolution which would reopen the government.

Congresswoman Joyce Beatty attended a rally, where she offered criticism of House Republicans.

Both Boehner and Beatty showed frustration that the shutdown will enter day five with no resolution in sight.

"This isn't some damn game," said Boehner. "The American people don't want their government shut down.  All we're asking for is to sit down and bring fairness to the American people."

Outside the capitol, Beatty told a group she was elected to represent and protect her constituents.

"We came here to represent and protect the American people and the American people have spoken," said Beatty.  “The President is standing tall and we stand with the President of the United States of America."
