UPDATED: Friday October 4, 2013 4:18 PM

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has charged Timothy J. Young, 22, with arson following a fire at the old Mac Tool factory on Tuesday.

According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, his office received the 911 call at 7:35 a.m.

The sheriff’s office says that deputies arriving at the scene reported heavy smoke from the roof of the building and the entry doors to the building ajar.

The fire originated along an east side wall and was ruled suspicious by fire investigators.

Stanforth says that when they checked the perimeter of the building, they observed a male suspect wearing a backpack and fleeing from the door area.

The man was identified as Young. He was arrested and charged with trespassing and was taken to the Fayette County Jail.

He was then charged with arson.

Young appeared in court on Thursday. He pleads not guilty.

He is being held on $10,000 bond.
