One provision of the Affordable Care Act is designed to help women when it comes to preventive care.
The mission director at Komen Columbus says it allows women over age 40 to get a mammogram for free.
It also allows women who are at high risk for breast cancer to have genetic tests covered by insurance.
Ohio is fourth nationally when it comes to deaths from breast cancer.
“At Komen Columbus, we're really hoping that we'll start to see the incidence and mortality rate for breast cancer go down in this state, as well as all of the lives of our friends and sisters and mothers be saved,” said Julie McMahon, Komen Columbus Mission Director.
McMahon says 3,000 Ohio women are expected to die of breast cancer this year.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
