A prosecutor apologizes for what he said came out as an insensitive comment.
The Athens County Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement on Thursday saying that Prosecutor Keller Blackburn was sorry for what came out as an insensitive comment in connection with the death of Jerry Lewis.
Lewis, 60, pleaded guilty to felonious assault, theft and forgery in connection with shooting his wife as she slept.
Lewis committed suicide before his sentencing, scheduled for this week, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
“I am saddened by the incident and stand by my statement that, ‘It’s a tragic ending to a really terrible situation,’” Blackburn said. “I’m sorry to everyone that has been hurt by my comments, and if I could take the words back, I would.”
