AEP gave out an award for the oldest refrigerator found in central Ohio.
Executives were guessing the winner would come from the 1970s or 1980s.
But Eleanore Naffziger of Upper Arlington owned a General Electric fridge that dates back to between 1927 and 1931.
She gave up the appliance in exchange for the $1,200 prize.
“We're going to buy a new refrigerator but there's going to be a lot left over afterwards so mom will be able to have something fun with,” said Deborah Naffziger, Eleanore’s daughter.
AEP plans on disposing of the hazardous materials inside this old fridge.
Once that's complete it will be put on display or put it in a museum.
