A wanted man surrendered after a S.W.A.T. standoff near Smith Park in Delaware County.

The standoff started around 1:00 a.m. at a house near the intersection of Troy Road and Hills-Miller Road.

Police said the suspect, now identified as Joseph Glenn Hiles, had warrants for menacing by stalking and telephone harrassment in the City of Delaware.

Investigators tracked Hiles to a friend's house near Smith Park. Authorities told 10tv they worked with a relative to negotiate his surrender.

Police said Hiles headed to the roof as negotiations continued. Officers evacuated a family from the house, including two children. Two other homes were also evacuated as a precaution.

Authorities said it was unclear if Hiles was armed. The Delaware County Sheriff's Office, The City of Delaware and Columbus Police were among the agencies who responded.
