High Speed Pursuit Ends In Crash

UPDATED: Tuesday September 17, 2013 7:15 AM

Columbus Police were searching for a driver who caused a high speed pursuit Tuesday morning.

A Reynoldsburg Police Sergeant told 10TV around 2:30 a.m. he tried to pull the man over on Brice Road because of a traffic violation.

The Sergeant said the man refused to stop. The officer said he followed the suspect onto I-70 westbound where the suspect accelerated to more than 100 miles per hour.

The officer said that's when he backed off from the pursuit for safety reasons.

Columbus Police said a short time later, the suspect crashed the 2004 Honda Civic into a guardrail at the exit from I-70 to Hamilton Road. He then jumped out of the car, and took off on foot.

Police were searching for the man on foot and by helicopter.

The ramp from I-70 to Hamilton Road was shut down while police investigated the crash.
