Officials said a mandrill was born at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on September 9.
The mandrill is the largest of all monkeys and one of seven species of baboons.
The new baby boy mandrill was born to mother Mandisa. He weighs 1.9 pounds, which is a healthy weight for a newborn.
The mother initially showed maternal instincts, but other members of the mandrill troop showed interest in the baby, leading to a lack of neonatal care.
Zoo officials said they have stepped in to care for the baby and hope to reunite the baby with his mother.
It's not known when the new mandrill will be ready to be seen by zoo visitors.
