Columbus Police Sgt. Joshua Wagner, 32 is on desk duty after being charged with OVI and having an open container.
Witnesses said they saw Wagner in his car at a green light with his foot on the brake and passed out behind the wheel.
He was arrested around 3:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Second Avenue and Summit Street.
Investigators said Wagner was off duty and in his personal vehicle at the time.
Wagner is a recipient of a purple heart and a silver cross for his actions during a standoff when he was shot in the face in 2009.
It's not clear where he was coming from on Saturday morning when a witnesses called 911 concerned about the person he described as “slumped over in the driver’s seat at a green light.”
"We just pulled around the corner and he's passed out over the steering wheel sitting there with the break on, he's knocked out, we're sitting right behind him, he's knocked out cold," the witness told 911 dispatchers.
Joshua Wagner is now on desk duty and scheduled for a 10 a.m. arraignment on Friday.
